Movie: District 9

When I heard of District 9 weeks ago, I was not really into it. I do love sci-fi flicks but I was hesitant to watch this one. I expected it to be just another crappy alien film just like the horrendous Cloverfield. As the weeks progressed and the show date was getting near, I decided to check out the reviews. Surprisingly, it had a lot of positive feedback. It was then that it somehow sparked my interest. Add the fact that Peter Jackson, director of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, was the producer.

With much anticipation, I wanted to watch this on a weekend. But thanks to the internet, I managed to get a copy from a friend. It was not that clear but it was bearable plus I got to save 170 bucks.

The movie was about a group of alien refugees who came to Earth and eventually stayed here for more than two decades. They were housed in a slum area known as District 9 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

District 9 is not your typical alien movie. Sure there were gruesome scenes of exploding guts and arms being chopped off. There was more to it than meets the eye. If you look closely, the movie dealt with issues like morality and equality. With a new race present, measures have been undertaken to make the coexistence of the species possible. Some people have taken advantage of the situation and even went as far as doing genetic experiments just to make the aliens' biological weapons work.

Considering the low budget of the film, I must say that it was a great job. They managed to tell the story well and the character development was good. If you're looking for action, this film sure provided a lot of it. More than the sci-fi aspect, Im loved how the film managed to inject humanity into the characters. One could see the struggle of a man infected with the alien gene and an alien who is trying to save his people.

The reviews were right. District 9 was indeed a great film. It provided the needed entertainment and at the same time showing the value of compassion and courage.

One for me please...

If I were a woman, I would most likely be obsessed with shoes and bags. My goal/ Holy Grail would be an Hermes Birkin and Christian Louboutin pumps. Well, if I do win the lottery, I would really get a Birkin for myself. As for the Loubs, thank God he has come up with shoes for men (I think). Check out the studded Christian Louboutin Studded Black Leather Slip-ons.

Can someone give a pair to me? Pretty please?

That Kiss

The gay hype is everywhere. Love it or hate it, it is here to stay. While browsing Ohlalamag, I saw two entries somehow related to each other since they involved kissing guys.

First is Twilight actor Peter Facinelli (Dr. Fitch Cooper) and Haaz Sleiman (Mohammed 'Mo-Mo' De La Cruz) in Nurse Jackie's season finale.

Second is the highly anticipated smooch between Ed Westwick aka Chuck Bass and Neal Bledsoe aka Josh Ellis in the upcoming season three of Gossip Girl.

Whew! Can't wait to watch these shows. Photos from Ohlalamag.

They Have Landed

After waiting for weeks, finally District 9 is now in theaters. I'm so gonna watch this this weekend. But wait, I just got hold of a pirated copy. Its not that clear but bearable enough. Hmmm....

Pilot

Time to update the desktop. Loving the fierce Posh Spice as the pilot.

After The Long Break

From Wednesday until Sunday. Well, that sure was a long break. I managed to do a lot of things over the 5-day break. Too bad I got sick for a day or two, I think. Anyway, it was great. I got a chance to dance again during the halftime for the UP-DLSU game wherein we won. WOOHOO!

I got myself a camouflage/military hoodie whish was really cheap and it would be a sin not to buy it. I watched the heartbreaking The Time Traveler's Wife. Helped lovers who recently broke up. Partied like crazy and ended up having an aching back, thanks to Pauline who ran over a hump at 100kph. Argh.

It was well spent. Too bad I was not able to tidy up my room. Maybe next week. Well hopefully I get to really clean up.

Movie: The Time Traveler's Wife

Since today was Quezon City day and that is officially a holiday in QC (Sorry Ortogas and Makati pips), then I decided to just hang out. After going to pep training, I decided to freshen up at the hostel and hang out with my varsity friends. OK, to be exact it was only with Luica. We decided to watch And I Love You So but I managed to persuade her to watch The Time Traveler's Wife.

When we got to Trinoma, obviously there were long lines at the cinema. Good thing most of the people wanted either Up or And I Love You So. After getting tickets, we decided to grab an uber late lunch to take with us to the movie.

I expected the film to be a bit depressing. I have not read the book nor do I have any idea about the story. Suremy expectations were met. While watching, both us were totally quiet and just sat there trying to digest what the film was all about. surely, their relationship was no walk in the park.

Clare married time traveler Henry whom he has known since she was a little girl. Years after, she comes to age and their paths cross again. They get married and struggled to live a normal life. Everything about their setup is far from normal. Not all wives have to deal with the fact that their husband could vanish one day and would have no idea when he'll be back.

With his genetic anomaly, Henry managed to see the both the past and future. It was both a gift and a curse. Imagine having to see how your mother died over and over again or even knowing when and how you will exactly die. Clare tried her best to understand Henry's condition and they managed to make it work.

After the movie, I was on the brink of tears. It left a little pinch on my heart. Henry and Clare's love was real and surpassed a difficult condition. Imagine how heartbreaking it would be to see your dead husband drop by every now and then.

It was a great movie. It made me realize that love will find a way to make a relationship work. People will find a way to be together no matter what.

Movie: The Hangover

I contemplated whether I would watch The Hangover or not. Based on the reviews, it sure was a great flick. Everyone in the US was raving about it so I decided to catch it during my birthday weekend. Good thing I saved a good P160 because my officemate gave me an uber clear copy so I decided to watch it at home.

The plot was simple. Based on the title, one would know that the movie is about a wild night in Vegas. Well, some guys just can't handle Vegas. The movie followed the exploits of four guys on the road for a good time in Sin City. Doug, is getting married and his friends Phil and Stu promised a great bachelor party. Allen, brother of Doug's fiancée, also tagged along.

The movie sure had a lot of funny moments. I loved the witty and hilarious lines. Its funny how a lot of thing can happen overnight. It sure was on hell of a batchelor party. While watching, I was kinda disappointed that they did not create flashbacks of what happened. I sure got my flashback during the credits when they showed the photos from the camera. Based on those shots, the boys sure had a great time.

Allen, was really funny. His character brought the much needed humor. Phil aka hottie Bradley Cooper was such a doll. Damn, he sure was smokin' HOT! Argh.

The Hangover is one of those films who would surely brighten up your day. Funny, witty and undeniably true to the usual Vegas experience. If you're the type who loves to drink the night away and end up wasted, you'll surely be able to relate to the movie.

Yes, I'm 25

Wow, time does fly when you're having fun. Before I knew it, I was already on my 25th year. Yikes! I am getting older. 25 is the new 50. I always referred to this age as the time fore mid-life crisis while others say its for quarter-life.

Life fast, die pretty.

When I opened my Facebook, there were a lot of people who greeted me. Thank you so much for remembering. Well, I had a rather steady birthday. Last night, I was out with some of the pep pips celebrating the night with booze, apple pies and loud music at JB's own party. Today, I went to my usual mall tour and watched the pep training before grabbing an early Chickenjoy dinner with Ivy and Bill.

Another year.

Thanks you all for the love.

Here's to more fab years of fun!

Curiosity

Some animals just can't help but be curious to the world of men. This picture was from a couple who were enjoying the majestic view of the Lake Minnewanka in Banff National Park, Canada.

‘We had our camera set up on some rocks and were getting ready to take the picture when this curious little ground squirrel appeared, became intrigued with the sound of the focusing camera and popped right into our shot’

The little critter is just so cute in this pic. Article from Ohlalamag.

Witch Hunt

I grew tired with the hibiscus woman in the woods so I opted for a darker wallpaper. This was also very much like the weather outside, dark and gloomy. Check out the witches above.

First Time

In our company's desire to promote work-life balance, we were all sentenced to play table tennis against each other. OK, I was never good with playing ball - that includes all types. I have no idea how to play the game. All I know is that you have to hit the ball with a racket.

I wanted to just forfeit and let my opponent, which was my boss, win. Oh well, I guess we all have to play so I did it out of compliance. I will surely lose but I would not doubt my capabilities knowing that this sport is not my cup of tea.

So I did it and obviously I lost. Haha!

Movie: G.I. Joe Rise of the Cobra

Last Saturday, I decided to catch G.I. Joe in the cinema because I had to wait for three long hours before the UAAP game will start. As usual, I watched it alone in Gayway.

My thoughts on the movie? Hmmm. I've read in the reviews that it was not a good film. That it had a lot of flaws as compared to the original series. For me it was fairly good. I have no idea whatsoever about G.I. Joe since I was never a fan while I was growing up. I had no idea who the characters were or what the story was all about.

I enjoyed watching the movie because of the action-packed scenes. There were a lot of kick-ass scenes that really got me to the edge of my seat. Though there were some that looked really fake especially that part when the G.I. Joe plan landed in the base. The whole thing looked totally fake.

As for the cast, it was like a reunion of The Mummy. I was surprised to see Sienna Miller with a black do. I didn't even recognize her at first. Channing Tatum was obviously hot. Marlon Wayans provided the much needed comic relief .

As a whole, the movie was entertaining even if others say otherwise. It sure served its purpose to accompany me for the extra hours before the UP-UST match.

I miss the good ol' sunny days.

Movie: The Proposal

I usually plan my weekend so that I have a clear view of what to expect. Since I do love surprises and I'm a certified Karen aka Kalakarin, I watched The Proposal last Friday instead of Saturday. Before we went inside the movie house, we bought food. Too bad I was a slave to McDonald's Chicken Fillet sandwich. I missed out on eating new food courtesy of the great food selections at the old Eastwood Mall. Rar.

Anyway, all throughout the movie, I was laughing so hard. The Proposal was a great watch. There were no boring scenes. Aside from his obvious good looks, chiseled bod, oozing sex appeal and steaming hotness, Ryan Reynold was such a treat. I really liked his acting. There were scenes wherein he didn't have to utter a single word but his facial expressions say it all. I loved his expression when Sandra Bullock told their bosses that they were getting hitched. Priceless.

Sandra Bullock was such a skinny bitch. I did not know that she had that body underneath the clothes. I was surprised that there was a naked scene. Whew! I kept my eyes glued to Reynolds, as expected. Lol. I loved Bullock's accessories: the caramel Hermes Birkin, Prada bag, Louis Vuitton Keepall and suitcase and the to-die-for Christian Louboutin pumps.

I found the Bullock's scene with Grammy at the forest really funny. Another scene that got me laughing was the one with the dog heaven.

The movie had a great mix of humor and a bit of drama. More than the love-hate affair, the movie also talked about the value of family and support. It was about defying the odds to reach your dreams. It showed that not all of had to follow our parents wishes if these do not go with our goals.

I would gladly watch this movie again. If anyone is going, tag me along. Just be sure to pay for my ticket. Lol
